The empty Laboratory building at 181a Huntingdon Road, situated behind the University buildings on Greenwich Rise, has been out of use since 2003 and in a state of disrepair. Planning permission for demolition was granted in April 2023. Demolition was scheduled to begin in June 2024, but has now been scheduled for September 2024, following ecology reports.
The work is expected to take 6-7 weeks. The pathways around the building will still be open. There will be alternative routes for affected stakeholders, consisting of a small number of residents (Gravel Hill Cottages), who will need to access the area by car via Gravel Hill Road, and those who walk and cycle directly around the building.
