FAQs

  • I have booked The Babbage Theatre/Lady Mitchell Hall, can I have a technician on site during my event?

The Babbage and Lady Mitchell hall both have user centric AV systems. You should manage without a technician for simple operation, however if your event is high profile or has complex AV requirements, then a technician is recommended and will ensure the event runs smoothly (charges apply). If we're unable to personally cover your event, then we have preferred contractors who we can recommend.

  •  I have booked The Babbage Theatre/Lady Mitchell Hall, can I have an audio feed from the house PA for my own camera equipment/camera operator?

An audio feed can be supplied for external camera operators, however a setup fee will apply and we will need at least a week's notice.

  • Can you convert my old VHS tapes to a digital file?

No, we no longer provide this service.

  • I work for the University, do I have to pay for your services?

Our remit is the support of teaching, within the University's centrally managed teaching spaces and during normal working hours. Outside of this remit charges may apply to use our services.

  • Can I ‘borrow’ a camera/projector/microphone/etc?

No, we do not loan AV equipment free of charge. We keep a small hire stock including professional PA and microphones (charges apply). We do not hire cameras but may be able to provide a full video production service (charges apply) or recommend one of our preferred contractors.

  • How much notice do I need to give to book one of your services?

We are often able to cater for most enquiries however urgent they might be. We do prefer to have at least a month’s notice for video productions and two weeks for booking hire equipment (we cannot guarantee availability).

  • I have booked a centrally managed teaching room, what AV equipment is available to use?

If the information cannot be found on Booker or via the Student Registry then please get in touch and we’ll be happy to explain what AV equipment is available in your room.

  • Can a technician meet me before my lecture to help me set up my presentation?

Most AV systems are basic and simple to use without the need for a technician. 1st line support for centrally managed rooms is via the Facilities Team for each site. If you would still like to meet with a technician, please contact AV Services at least 1 week in advance to make arrangements (we cannot guarantee our availability).
