FAQs

  • How much does your video production service cost?

Our video and live streaming packages are tailored and priced to suit your needs. Please contact AV Services with full details of the date, times and location for your event, along with your requirements. We may need to conduct a site survey, but we will provide you with a competitive quotation.

  • I have booked The Babbage Theatre/Lady Mitchell Hall, do I need a technician on site during my event?

The Babbage and Lady Mitchell hall both have user centric AV systems. You should manage without a technician for simple operation, however if your event is high profile or has complex AV requirements, then a technician is recommended to offer support and ensure the event runs smoothly.

  • I have booked The Babbage Theatre/Lady Mitchell Hall, can I have an audio feed from the house PA for my own camera equipment/camera operator?

These spaces have been fully fitted with professional video production equipment at great expense. As such we must insist that where available, all video production within these spaces is booked through and operated by AV Services. Where AV Services are unable to provide this service, an audio feed can be supplied for external camera operators, however a setup fee will apply.

  • Can you convert my old VHS tapes to a digital file and what does it cost?

Yes, we are able to convert VHS video and audio cassette tapes to DVD, CD or digital media file. This service is available to all and prices start from £11.00 (ex VAT) for a tape up to 60 minutes. Please contact AV Services who will be able to provide you with a competitive quote.

  • I work for the University, do I have to pay for your services?

Unless the service is being provided in support of teaching, within one of our own centrally managed spaces and during normal working hours, then charges will apply. We endeavour to offer competitive pricing and it is worth noting that we do not need to charge our University colleagues VAT when paying internally via a departmental Purchase Order.

  • Can I ‘borrow’ a camera/projector/microphone/etc?

We do not loan AV equipment free of charge unless it is being provided in support of teaching, within one of our own centrally managed spaces. We keep a small hire stock including professional PA, microphones and projectors (charges apply). We do not hire cameras, but can provide a full video production and live streaming service (charges apply).

  • How much notice do I need to give to book one of your services?

We are often able to cater for most enquiries however urgent they might be. We do prefer to have at least a month’s notice for large video productions and two weeks for small productions or booking hire equipment (we cannot guarantee availability).

  • I am working on an AV upgrade project or purchasing AV equipment, can AV Services advise me?

Yes, we will be happy to provide University members with impartial professional advice on AV equipment for upgrades and renovation projects. Charges will apply for more labour intensive AV consultation, system design, writing performance specifications or liaising with contractors/suppliers.

  • I have booked a centrally managed teaching room, what AV equipment is available to use?

Please get in touch with AV Services and we’ll be happy to explain what AV equipment is available in your room.

  • Can a technician meet me before my lecture to help me set up my presentation?

Most AV systems are basic and simple to use without the need for a technician. 1st line support for most centrally managed rooms is via the onsite Facilities Team. If you would still like to meet with a technician please contact AV Services at least 1 week in advance to make arrangements (we cannot guarantee our availability).
