The University Library (UL) is carrying out exploratory work to consider the best ways to preserve the heritage of its landmark 1934 building, reduce its environmental footprint, and ensure it maintains its place at the leading edge of academic research long into the future.
Following a series of user consultations, the UL has worked with architects Herzog & de Meuron to develop a concept for addressing the building’s maintenance, access and other issues, and to improve its environmental performance. The concepts also include ideas to reopen areas of the UL that were originally accessible to visitors but are currently off-limits, thereby reinstating a greater range of research and learning spaces.
You can visit the exhibition and share your views at:
- Cambridge University Library (Tuesday 20 January to Monday 26 January, 9am-6.45pm on weekdays, and 9am to 4:45pm on the Saturday)
- West Hub (Tuesday 27 January to Friday 30 January, 8am-7pm)
- Cambridge Central Library (Saturday 31 January, 10am-6pm, and Sunday 1 February, 12pm-4pm).
Project representatives will be available to answer questions between 10-11am and 12noon-1pm each day of the exhibition.
There will also be three in-person talks about the work: two at the UL (2-3pm on 21 and 23 January) and one at West Hub (10-11am on 28 January). As seating is limited, please book your place at one of these talks using the links below:
