AV Team staff flying a drone in Cambridge

Following recent training, the AV Services team now have both A2 CofC and GVC qualifications enabling them to fly more safely and effectively to any location throughout Cambridge and the UK.

Undertaking training through local company Sky Revolutions, the team spent a day taking in the legislation, theory and best practices for drone operations with an exam at the end of the day. This was followed by an overview of documentation required for certain types of operations and a practical assessment which, despite breezy conditions, all colleagues successfully passed.

Knowing that a large part of the University estate falls under a Flight Restriction Zone owing to the close proximity of Cambridge City Airport, the team was able to ascertain the correct administrative processes for applying to fly within that zone and can therefore bring their videography and photography skills to the skies whilst ensuring they stay fully compliant.

If you are interested in capturing an event with some innovative angles (inside and outside) or would like some high quality aerial photos of your building for publicity, or simply some swift checking for visual damage on a roof after a summer storm, get in touch via avteam@admin.cam.ac.uk and the team will see how to help you capture your objectives.
